The building achieved LEED Certified Platinum status with the vertical installation of Mega Lath. The framing and wall system were detailed by Kaiser specifically to maximize space for insulation to ensure high thermal performance. The building’s lower perimeter floor is stucco and the entire Atrium walls use Mega Lath installed vertically over Z Girts. According to Frank Arnold, Structa’s Technical Representative, “Nevell Group had never used the product before yet the men on the job liked it better than 3.4 diamond lath sheets.” The use of Mega Lath on the 7′ vertical sections assured a scrap reduction of 12 per cent over diamond lath sheets. Mega Lath was installed from the top down with fasteners at every twin trac. For a detailed technical report on vertical Mega Lath see the Kaiser Permanente Case Study in our Articles section.

This project is the first Kaiser Permanente building to qualify for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. This will also be the first Kaiser Permanente building to utilize solar water heating, integrate design with energy models, and utilize reclaimed water to operate building fixtures as well as for landscape irrigation.
