ClarkDietrich Continues Long-Time Commitment to SkillsUSA, Donates Steel Framing for 2018 National Championships

June 25, 2018 - West Chester, OH – ClarkDietrich is again a proud partner of the SkillsUSA Championships, a 2-day event that pits the nation’s top technical students against each other in more than 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields. ClarkDietrich will support the Carpentry and Teamworks competitions through a donation of its ProSTUD® Drywall Framing System, clips and structural framing systems.

The SkillsUSA Championships is part of the annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, where more than 16,000 people — including students, teachers and business partners — are expected to participate in the weeklong event. The Championships competition continues to grow in scale and this year’s event is no different, as the event will occupy a space equivalent to 20 football fields. In 2017, there were more than 6,200 contestants, and nearly 2,000 judges and contest organizers.

“We’re excited to be part of the SkillsUSA Championships again this year. It’s not only a showcase of excellent technical expertise by students from across the country, but it’s a celebration of the trades, ” said Terry Westerman, vice president of marketing, ClarkDietrich Building Systems. “Over the 20 or so years of involvement with SkillsUSA, we have truly enjoyed the spirit of competition and collaboration, and look forward to continuing our support.”

As part of the Carpentry Competition, contestants will build both steel framed and wood framed partitions, cut and install rafters as well as install fascia board, sheathing and or exterior siding and trim. Contestants will be judged on accuracy, ability to read and interpret blueprints, workmanship, safety and the proper use of tools, equipment and materials.

The Teamworks Competition requires teams of four contestants to complete a construction project demonstrating their ability to work together. Each team will present their plan of action, a key element of the completion, and use their carpentry, electrical, plumbing and masonry skills to execute their plan. Teams will be judged based on their presentation skills, ability to construct a project per specific building codes, jobsite safety and cleanliness and proper use and accountability of tools and equipment and the rate of completion of the project.

The 54th Annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference takes place in Louisville, Ky., June 25-29, 2018. The competitions will be open to the public and free of charge.
