ClarkDietrich Continues to Drive the Success of SkillsUSA Students

June 13, 2017 - West Chester, Ohio - ClarkDietrich is excited to continue its support and sponsorship of the annual SkillsUSA Championships, this year held June 21-22, in Louisville, Kentucky. ClarkDietrich is proud to provide ProSTUD® Drywall Framing System and structural framing systems for this years’ competition in two categories; Carpentry and Teamworks.
As a part of the championship event, 6,000 students will compete in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields. Contestants are all state contest winners and will race against the clock and field of competitors, demonstrating their knowledge and expertise in occupations such as electronics, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts. The competition is part of the SkillsUSA Annual National Leadership and Skills Conference that takes place the same week on June 19-23, which annualy attracts more than 16,000 students, trade pros and technical advisors.

“The SkillsUSA Championship gives young building and construction students the opportunity to test their knowledge with modern equipment and products that are used in today’s projects,” said Terry Westerman, vice president of marketing, ClarkDietrich Building Systems. “It gives us great pleasure to do our part in helping shape the future of the American construction industry by providing our products and support.”

The Carpentry Competition tests contestants on skills that include framing walls with wood and steel studs, cutting and installing rafters, as well as installing fascia board, sheathing and/or exterior sliding and trim. Contestants will be judged on accuracy, ability to read and interpret blueprints, workmanship, safety and the proper use of tools, equipment and materials.

The Teamworks Competition requires teams of four people to complete a construction project demonstrating their ability to work together. Each team will present their plan of action, a key element of the competition, and use their carpentry, electrical, plumbing and masonry skills to execute their plan. Teams will be judged based on their presentation skills, ability to construct a project per specific building codes, jobsite safety and cleanliness and proper use and accountability of tools and equipment and the rate of completion of the project.

“ClarkDietrich is looking forward to witnessing these champions at work and continuing their support of SkillsUSA,” Westerman added.
