ClarkDietrich Receives Four AWCI Construction Excellence Awards at 2019 Annual Convention

Submitted by Jenny Hull on

At the 2019 INTEX Expo and AWCI Annual Convention, ClarkDietrich continued its winning ways by receiving four AWCI Excellence in Construction Quality Awards—one more than they received the year prior. The awards recognize AWCI members whose work demonstrates superior quality under challenging project conditions.

In the Drywall category, ClarkDietrich was part of the winning team for the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Museum of Westward Expansion & Visitor Center located in St. Louis. The project features a new accessible west entrance and a 45,183-square-foot, multi-level addition to the existing 103,546-square-foot subterranean museum visitor center. The addition serves as the new main entrance and upper-level lobby opening toward downtown St. Louis. The project team consisted of Negwer Materials Inc., Cooper, Robertson & Partners as well as T.J. Wies Contracting, Inc.

The winning project in the Interior Plaster category was 350 Bush Street located in San Francisco. The new 19-story office tower will provide 360,000-square-foot of office space with a dramatic galleria at the street level. ClarkDietrich worked alongside subcontractor Patrick J. Ruane, Inc. as well as other team members that included Paige & Turnbull Historic Architects, Heller Manus Architects and Foundation Building Materials. This project was distinctly complex because the structure utilized rusticated stone cladding with glass curtain wall accents and ornamental balconies, demonstrating a balance between antique and modern design.

In the Small Projects category, ClarkDietrich as well as Raymond-San Diego, Inc., L&W Supply, Westpac Materials, Klai Juba Wald and Level 10 Construction were all part of the winning team for the Pala Casino Spa & Resort New Pool Complex located in Pala, CA. The Pala Casino Spa & Resort’s New Pool Complex was part of a $170M expansion. The new space includes a poolside bar and restaurant, lounge area, five pools, two oversized hot tubs and 14 luxury cabanas.

Lastly, in the Steel Framing category, ClarkDietrich along with Performance Contracting, Inc., Capital Building Supply, Cox Graae + Spack Architects, Lance Bailey Associates and GCS | Sigal were all recognized for their contributions to the Duke Ellington School for the Arts project in Washington, DC. Working under a strict 26-month schedule, the design-build team completed the project before the 2017-18 school year began. The project consisted of a 265,000-square-foot renovation, expansion and modernization concept that added dramatic facilities to an aging national landmark.

“We are honored to be part of such talented project teams and always welcome the opportunity to help solve construction obstacles for challenging projects like the ones recognized at this years’ award ceremony,” said Jim Collins, president and CEO, ClarkDietrich. “Without collaboration, these projects would not be possible.”

ClarkDietrich would like to thank AWCI for these honorable recognitions and look forward to working on future projects with AWCI partners in the future.
