BlazeFrame™ Fire-Stopping System from ClarkDietrich™ Building Systems Wins Product Innovation Award

November 15, 2012 - West Chester, Ohio – ClarkDietrich Building Systems is pleased to announce that its BlazeFrame fire-stopping system has received a Product Innovation Award from Architectural Products magazine.

Judged by 50 independent industry professionals, the Architectural Products Product Innovation Awards (PIA) determine and honor innovation in the development and refinement of buildings-related products.

BlazeFrame, the latest innovation available from ClarkDietrich Building Systems, is a first-of-its-kind product that combines fire and joint protection dependability into a single product head-of-wall system. BlazeFrame features an affixed intumescent material on its steel profiles, which allow installers to simultaneously frame interior walls while also constructing a fire-rated wall assembly that creates a smoke and sound seal of both dynamic and static perimeter joints.

“We are extremely pleased that Architectural Products magazine has recognized the positive impact BlazeFrame has on the building community and occupant safety,” said Bill Courtney, president and CEO of ClarkDietrich Building Systems. “Its customization, easy installation, and sustainability focus allow construction and design teams for offices, hospitals, multi-family dwellings and other commercial construction structures to achieve substantial fire protection using a more cost-effective approach.”

The unique design of the BlazeFrame system offers protection and support of wall framing materials for up to three inches of movement capability, while eliminating requirements for caulks, sprays, drywall rips and contour drywall cuts throughout joint assemblies. When exposed to heat above 375 degrees Fahrenheit, the 2-mm thick fire-stopping material expands up to 35 times its size to prevent the passage of heat, smoke and flames during a fire.

According to Jim Crockett, editorial director for Architectural Products magazine, the Product Innovation Awards represents a mechanism to impartially review products and present to readers, items their peers found innovative and worth investigating.

“Building on the success of last year’s inaugural program, our second edition of the awards proves commercial building manufacturers are committed to, and are working arduously toward, delivering more sustainable products, as well as products that deliver better performance, life and affordability,” said Crockett.

To highlight the industry’s most forward-thinking innovators, winning products are featured in the November issue of Architectural Products magazine.

BlazeFrame complies with all building codes and is UL-Classified with the lowest possible L-Rating of less than 1 CFM/per lft. This includes substrates such as concrete, drywall, protected metal deck and unprotected fluted deck.
